AGENCY LAUNCHES ALL-NEW IDENTITY

Agency becomes largest U.S. provider of substance abuse programs for API’s

July 25, 2002 — San Francisco, CA — Asian American Recovery Services, Inc., a leading provider of substance abuse services to Asian/Pacific Islanders residing in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, today announced the public launch of an all-new agency identity. The agency’s new identity recognizes and reflects the tremendous growth in programs and services offered to the agency’s ethnically and culturally diverse clients.

Originally established in 1985 as part of a grassroots effort in the city of San Francisco, the agency has since grown to include programs and services in both Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, in addition to the city and county of San Francisco. In the past 3 years alone, the agency has more than tripled in size to an annual budget of nearly $10 million, establishing Asian American Recovery Services as the largest community-based organization in the U.S. providing health and well-being education and substance abuse services targeting Asians and Pacific Islanders.

"Asian American Recovery Services has a very proud and successful history," said Jeff Mori, Executive Director, "and, we continue to expand our programs and services throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley. Our new identity and logo visually reflect both our proud history and the positive outlook of our future, as we work hard to further enhance our culturally competent programs and services."

The agency’s new identity includes a new, highly-stylized red and black logo, whose original design concept was derived from the ancient Chinese yin yang symbol. The dramatically stylized logo invokes thoughts of moving from darkness to light; the circular nature of life; the balance of sun and moon; the interdependency of men and women; and many more images. The agency’s new identity will be reflected immediately in all outbound materials, including an all-new website slated for public launch in October 2002.

Since 1985, Asian American Recovery Services, Inc. is committed to helping San Francisco Bay Area youth, adults, and their families overcome the devastation of alcohol and substance abuse. As Asian and Pacific Islander communities continue to grow dramatically, Asian American Recovery Services, Inc. is the only agency offering culturally-competent programs that help Asian and Pacific Islander families understand the impact of drug abuse. In order to meet the overwhelming need for health and well-being education, prevention, treatment and research programs, and with a fiscal 2002 budget of nearly $10 million, Asian American Recovery Services, Inc. is the largest community-based organization in the United States providing health and well-being education and substance abuse treatment services targeting Asian and Pacific Islander communities.
