ASIAN AMERICAN RECOVERY SERVICES LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE

New Site Features Secure-Encrypted On-Line Giving

October 28, 2002 — San Francisco, CA — Asian American Recovery Services, Inc., a leading provider of substance abuse services to Asian/Pacific Islanders residing in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, today announced the launch of the agency’s all-new website: www.aars-inc.org. The new website highlights the agency’s new visual identity (see news release dated: 07/25/02) and presents comprehensive site content reflective of the tremendous growth in programs and services now being offered to the agency’s ethnically and culturally diverse clients.

Originally established in 1985 as part of a grassroots effort in the city of San Francisco, the agency has since grown to include programs and services in both Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, in addition to the city and county of San Francisco. In the past 3 years alone, the agency has more than tripled in size to an annual operating budget of nearly $10 million, establishing Asian American Recovery Services as the largest community-based organization in the U.S. providing health and well-being education and substance abuse services targeting Asians and Pacific Islanders.

"Asian American Recovery Services has a very proud and successful history," said Jeff Mori, Executive Director, "and, we continue to expand our programs and services throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Silicon Valley. Our new website adds an important communication and collaboration tool to our already proven and outstanding programs and services. Further enabled by our new website, we become even more accessible and responsive to our clients needs, our partners, our donors and contributors, and the community-at-large."

The agency’s new website features easy-to-use navigation with clean, simple visuals and graphics for quick download times. The new website includes comprehensive listings and descriptions of available programs and services for children, youth and adults. Site locations are found easily, with maps and driving directions available. Multiple language assistance, as well as culturally-competent services are highlighted throughout the website. Jobseekers can review current employment opportunities and benefits summaries.

An all-new and secure-encrypted on-line giving function allows visitors the opportunity to donate on-line -- easily, quickly and safely. "As our agency continues to grow and expand its services in order to meet the needs of our communities, we felt it was important to establish an easy way to expand our reach to donors and contributors," said Joanne Maher, Director of Fund Development. The on-line giving function, enabled by the agency’s software partner, Entango, allows visitors to safely use a credit card to make a donation as well as provide a tribute to a friend or family member. According to Maher, "…and somehow, even during the most economically stressful and emotionally difficult of times, people and businesses everywhere find it in their hearts to give."

Since 1985, Asian American Recovery Services, Inc. is committed to helping San Francisco Bay Area youth, adults, and their families overcome the devastation of alcohol and substance abuse. As Asian and Pacific Islander communities continue to grow dramatically, Asian American Recovery Services, Inc. is the only agency offering culturally-competent programs that help Asian and Pacific Islander families understand the impact of drug abuse. In order to meet the overwhelming need for health and well-being education, prevention, treatment and research programs, and with a fiscal 2002 budget of nearly $10 million, Asian American Recovery Services, Inc. is the largest community-based organization in the United States providing health and well-being education and substance abuse treatment services targeting Asian and Pacific Islander communities.
